Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), is a national scheme for people with disabilities to provide funding direct to individuals. Funding is provided to Australians who have a permanent and significant disability and is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
How can I get NDIS funding?
You can check whether you are eligible for NDIS support via the the NDIS website.
If eligible you can apply to the NDIA for funding. More information can be found here.
What will the NDIS cover?
There are three (3) types of support budgets that may be included in your NDIS plan based on what is ‘reasonable’ and ‘necessary’.
The Core Supports Budget:
Your Core Supports help you with everyday activities, your current disability-related needs and to work towards your goals. Your Core Supports budget is the most flexible, and in most cases, you can use your funding across any of the following four support categories.
Assistance with Daily Life
Consumables
Assistance with Social & Community Participation
Transport
The Capacity Building Budget -
Capacity Building Supports help build your independence and skills to help you pursue your goals. Unlike your Core Supports budget, your Capacity Building Supports budget cannot be moved from one support category to another. Funding can only be used to purchase approved individual supports that fall within that Capacity Building category. Which supports your capacity to participate more fully in the community. (For example, a Core Support might be using funds for delivery of meals on a weekly basis, where as a Capacity Building support will provide you with the knowledge, skills and education to prepare healthy meals yourself
The Capacity Building categories are:
Support Coordination
Improved Living Arrangements
Increased Social & Community Participation
Finding & Keeping a Job
Improved Relationships
Improved Health & Wellbeing
Improved Learning
Improved Life Choices
Improved Daily Living
Capital Support Budget:
Capital Supports include higher-cost pieces of assistive technology, equipment and home or vehicle modifications, and funding for one-off purchases you may need (including Specialist Disability Accommodation). It is important to remember that funds within the Capital Supports budget can only be used for their specific purpose and cannot be used to pay for anything else. The Capital Supports budget has two support categories: Assistive Technology and Home Modifications.
Assistive Technology
Home Modifications
This is a frequently asked question?
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
